Frequently Asked Questions

What print processes are available at Cantec Print Centre?

We offer conventional digital and wide format.

Can I request a print process?

Yes, you can. Our sales team will be delighted to supply you with an estimate

How does Cantec Print colour match across different print processes?

Cantec uses the latest industry standard ink profiles. All processes are fingerprinted to that standard.
Where no two process can be identical, Cantec goes to great lengths to minimise the difference.

What is the acceptable file format?

Adobe Acrobat (.PDF files).

What is the recommended bleed requirement?

Bleed should be set at 3mm on all sides for all sizes to allow for cutter variance.

What is the minimum resolution required?

Minimum resolution for printing is 300 dpi or better. 72 dpi, 150 dpi,200 dpi, etc are not acceptable.Printin
from a low resolution files will cause pixilation and a low quality print.

What is overprint?

Overprint causes colours to blend into each other. Before sending your files to print make sure to turn off
the overprint. To check for this in Indesign and Illustrator, go to (View) and select “Overprint Preview”. To fix
in Indesign and Illustrator, select the object then go to (Window), (Attributes) and uncheck “Overprint”.

How To Set Up Rich Black?

To set up a rich black, you need to use a combination of 2 colours. Our standard rich black is: 40% cyan and 100% black. The combination will give you a rich black. Without this combination, you will receive a faded black colour. Please note if your text is black, make sure it is 100% black and not a rich black combination. A rich black in text will result in offsetting.

Why Do The Printed Colours Look Different From The Colours On My Screen?

In short, printers and monitors produce colours in different ways. Monitors use the RGB (red, green, blue) colour model, which usually supports a wider spectrum of colours. Printers use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) colour model, which can reproduce most—but not all—of the colours in the RGB colour model.
Depending on the equipment used, CMYK generally matches 85–90% of the colours in the RGB model. When a colour is selected from the RGB model that is out of the range of the CMYK model, the application chooses what it thinks is the closest colour that will match. Programs like Adobe Photoshop will allow you tochoose which colour will be replaced. Others may not.

What Does Too Close To Trim Mean?

When non bleeding information is near or on the trim line. We ask for a 3-5mm margin for all non bleedin information. We refer to this as the 'quiet area'.

How Do I Fix Transparency Issues?

The simplest way in most programs is to raster together all images and artwork using transparencies into one layer, keeping your type on top in a separate layer.

What Does Low Res Mean?

Low resolution is typically 240 dpi or lower. We recommend 300 dpi at 100% of picture placement.
